Under 12 Major
St Mochtas found the net 30 seconds into the game. Cillian Christopher pressed the Home Farm full back and when he won possession it was a simple pass to Cian McDonnell in space who drove the ball across the face of goal where Dylan Maher hit the back of the net running in at the back post. 0-1.
Home Farm tried to press and find a way back into the game but there was no way past Patrick Redmond and Cian McDonnell in the middle of the park.
The home side did however find an equaliser from a corner on 15 minutes with a superb headed goal, 1-1.
The saints were determined not to let the home side back into the game and pressed hard to get themselves back in front. They were eventually rewarded for their effort when a superb through ball from Patrick Redmond found Alex Brady in space. A first time low drive was met by the feet of the onrushing Home Farm keeper. His save sent the ball up into the air where Alex, who hadn’t given up, ran on to slot the ball home in the last minute of the half, 1-2.
Unfortunately the second half was a very dramatic affair that saw all three points taken away from the saints. With the saints on a quick break, Chris Kinzunga drove a powerful shot goal bound only for it to be saved by a clear outstretched arm of the Home Farm full back. It was a save any goal keeper would be proud of but to the amazement of everyone on the pitch and the sideline nothing was given.
While the official was still trying to decide if it was a goal kick, a corner or a penalty, the home side threw a ball in and continued playing and within 30 seconds had an equaliser, 2-2.
In a game that was dominated by the saints, it was disappointing not to walk away with all 3 points but a point is a point and we look forward to welcoming Home Farm to Porterstown Road for the return league encounter.
