FAI Umbro Intermediate Cup 2nd Round
Killester created the opening chance of the game, Saints goalkeeper Tadgh Murphy was forced into making a superb save pushing the ball on to the post after the visitors carved open the Saints defence. Denis Moran spurned a glorious chance in the 12th minute, his shot went past the post much to the relief of the away side. Two minutes later the deadlock was broken from Peter O' Reilly's low drive that beat Murphy and nestled in the bottom corner.
Three minutes later O' Reilly added his second with an emphatic finish from Michael Keogh's delivery. Keogh's dangerous delivery was whipped into the penalty area, but it was a soft goal to concede and the Saints were left with mammoth task. The Saints needed a rapid response and Keith Dunne was very unlucky when his header rattled the crossbar from David Somers cross on the half hour mark. The visitors finished the half the stronger with Murphy forced into making two good saves.
Lee Dixon and Gareth Cooney replaced Deegan and Reilly five minutes after the break. Dixon pulled a goal back in the 64th minute with a magnificent half volley from Bryan Fitzpatrick's cross that flew into the roof of the net. The Saints had plenty of possession in the latter stages and they threw everything at Killester in search of the equaliser.
Killester always remained a threat on the break and the tie was killed off in the last minute when Michael Kelly beat Murphy with the help of a cruel deflection.
