LSL Division 2
Mark Sheridan came close to opening the scoring from the tip off, his spectacular shot from the half way line clipped the crossbar much to the relief of the visiting goalkeeper. James Sheridan made a good save in the 7th minute punching away a dangerous shot that nearly crept into the back of the net through a crowd of bodies. The Saints took the lead in the 13th minute when Nicolas Moutou slotted the ball home after a delightful ball by Saints stalwart Dave Bellew. Two minutes later the visitors equalised when James Sheridan was beaten from a free kick that took a heavy deflection and the ball found the top corner. John O' Leary played a vital role in the Saints restoring the lead on the half hour mark. O'Leary's run and delivery was met by the Peagus defender who steered the ball into his own net. It was unlucky on the defender, but O' Leary was excellent and his delivery very dangerous.
The home side dominated for large spells of the second half, Jarod Flynn went close with a shot that went just past the upright. The Saints dominance finally paid off with fifteen minutes remaining when Wayne Fay scored the goal of the game with a very neat finish into the corner of the net from Martin O' Neill's delightful through ball. Fay and O' Leary both went close to making it 4 in the latter stages with Aaron O' Brien pulling the strings and playing some exquisite football. Brian's team have a fantastic blend of youth and experience and they like to play good football.
The Saints have notched up 12 points from a possible 15 and in this form, they will certainly have ambitions of winning a league title.
