LSL Division 2
Beech Hill away is always a very difficult fixture, so today's win was very impressive and convincing. Beech Hill came into the game full of confidence after their 9-3 win last weekend against Inchicore Athletic.
The Saints started the stronger side, playing some very nice football and creating a couple chances. Beech Hill opened the scoring with a powerful header that beat Saints goalkeeper James Sheridan. Four minutes later the Saints responded and equalised thanks to Dylan Sweeney's header from John O' Leary's terrific cross. On the balance of play the Saints deserved to be all level. Mark Sheridan and Derek Rochford were outstanding with Mark's wide range of passing and vision a constant problem for the home side. Rochford was dominant all afternoon winning every battle and header, he epitomised the teams will to win.
Defensively the team were very solid with Captain David Bellew leading by example. The Saints deservedly took the lead thanks to Nicolas Moutou scoring with a very composed finish after some excellent play by the impressive Dylan Sweeney. Five minutes before the break Wayne Fay continued his scoring streak with an outstanding finish past the advancing goalkeeper. The Saints playing with plenty of confidence dominated the second half, Richard Lyons and Jarod Flynn were a constant threat to the home side with some good runs and clever use of the ball.
Wayne Fay and John O' Leary both went close with efforts that rattled the post. Solid, centre half James McElvaney forced the goalkeeper into producing some fine saves from headers. Beech Hill applied some pressure late in the game, Saints goalkeeper James Sheridan made a couple of outstanding saves. James is in fine form and he installs confidence throughout the defence. The back 5 have been excellent in the last 6 matches with the best defensive record in the league so far this season only conceding 4 goals.
The Saints have ambitions of promotion again this year and on this form they will be expected to be in the shake up. Credit to the new management team,Brian Flynn and his assistant John O' Leary. The team are playing attractive football and are picking up plenty of points. Damien Harold the teams Physio is a vital part of the team, and it's the attitude of the whole squad and staff that is also very impressive about Brian Flynn's team. It's a group that has plenty of talent, a perfect mix of youth and experience and when you add the togetherness, it's a formidable team. The saints have 15 points from a possible 18 and are the most talked about team in the division.
