LSL Division 1
Peamount started confidently enough but it was the champions who had he first real clear opportunity when David Somers volleyed over he crossbar. The home side looked the more likely to break through, David Somers and Aaron O' Brien had the best of the Saints chances although credit must be awarded to the Peamount goalkeeper who made some fine saves. David Somers who's scored 29 goals this season will be looking to hit 3o in the final league game of the season away to Arklow town.
Peamount took the lead on the stroke of half time when Carter's powerful strike from outside the penalty area flew past Warren Fee in goal. The Saints dominated large spells of the second half, but couldn't find a goal. Peamount defended very well, were compact and they held on to win despite plenty of pressure. It was a fantastic feeling to see Captain Craig Sheridan lift the league trophy. It's an unbelievable achievement to win the league on the back of a promotion. The two league defeats arrived when the league title was won. They are a team in the true sense of the word, playing for each other, covering each other's back. They stood strong when injuries arrived, scored plenty of goals and were defensively excellent. The players celebrated with the cup, sharing the moment, and they all congratulated each other, a symbol of the collectivity that has served them so well all season.
Showing a touch of class, Peamount came back onto the pitch to applaud the league champions collect the trophy.
Senior Secretary Vincent Nulty paid tribute to Peamount after the game " Thank you to the Peamount/Moyle Park managemnt, players and supporters for their great show of sportsmanship by staying to applaud the Saints lift the league trophy, I have been there when relegation hits your club, and I know it's the worst feeling in sport, I really hope they bounce back".
It was a very proud moment for Senior Secretary Vinny Nulty to see he league title arrive to Portersown road " Brian and the team have achieved something really special, I'm very proud of Brian, Bobby, Donal, Steffano and all the players, our supporters have enjoyed a truly memorable season and it's brilliant for everyone in the club".
