Under 11 Coyne Cup Final
Shelbourne started off the brighter side passing the ball around well but couldn't take their chances in the opening half. The Saints goal keeper was alert to everything today and made the right decision every time. He knew exactly when to come off his line to clear the ball and also made some top class saves. Ahmed has been exceptional all season and today was no different. Shels did break open the Saints defense on one occasion but somehow Jake Brady cleared of the line while facing his own goal.
Whatever encouragement and words Mark and Dave gave at half time certainly worked. They came out in the second half inspired. Shelbourne rarely seen the saints half of the pitch. Mid way through the second half Gentian and Alex linked up and with a quick one two they cut open the Shels defense. Alex was cool and made no mistake beating the Shels keeper. 1-0. Shelbourne tried hard to get back into the game but there was no way past the pace of Emmanuel and the rock solid Glen at the back. In the closing minutes Shels were awarded a free just outside the box after Cameron brought their player down. The hearts of many saints supporters on the sideline reduced to a slow beat but fortunately for all concerned, the shot went over.
There was a huge relief all round when the final whistle was blown and to watch these kids celebrate was simply fantastic. They have been superb all season and thoroughly deserve today's win.
Afterwards manager Mark Kelly said 'It was a great game of football from two fantastic teams but in a final there has to be a winner and thankfully it was us. Credit to Shelbourne who battled till the end'.
There was a great amount support for the team today and the club would like to thank everyone who came out and encouraged the boys. Its day's like today that makes everyone proud to be a Saint!
