LSL Division 1
Tonight's side was a mixture of experience and youth with Darren McGarry starting in goal. McGarry made some fine saves. Nathan Brown partnered Craig Sheridan in the heart of the defence. Brown was solid and he won some vital headers. Aaron O' Brien started and was lively, he's a talented player who will be anxious to get more minutes before the season reaches it's conclusion.
Dublin Bus opened the scoring in the 5th minute when McGarry was beaten with a curling shot the found the top corner.
The goal sparked the saints to life and they started to play the football that has seen them crowned league champions. David Somers volleyed over the crossbar, after a terrific ball by Nathan Brown found O' Brien who's delightful chip was volleyed just over by the striker, who was looking for his 28th goal of the season.
The hosts made it 2-0 against the run of play on 38th minutes, a mazy run through the defence was slotted home.
The Dublin Bus goalkeeper made a fine save just after half time, Gavin Smith's powerful drive from Lancaster's short corner was tipped over the crossbar. Paul McCullagh pulled a goal back on the hour with a superb finish into the corner of the net. Three minutes later Dublin Bus restored the two goal cushion when McGarry was beaten with a great finish into the top corner. Graham Hughes was introduced as a second half substitute and he can be pleased with his performance, he was confident and certainly didn't look out of place. His deliveries into the penalty area were dangerous and always a threat.
It's never nice to lose, but the league is won. The young players playing tonight made a good impression. They are all ambitious, talented and hopefully they get more opportunities before the season ends.
