LSL Division 1
Arklow started the brighter and Saints goalkeeper Darren McGarry produced a couple of good saves. The inspirational Jonathan Lyons went close to opening the scoring, his curling shot had the goalkeeper worried and it went just over the crossbar. The home side took the lead on 4o minutes when a mix up in the Saints was punished. Four minutes later it was all square, Aaron O' Brien went on a terrific run beat a defender and his pull back found Crowe who had the simplest of taps ins.
McGarry made a fine save just after half time tipping a long range drive over the crossbar. Glen Crowe linked up with O'Brien three minutes later, Glen failed to get a good connection on O'Brien's cross. Bobby Ryan was introduced on the hour and he showed some nice touches and vision and he tested the goalkeeper on a couple of occasions. Stephen Deegan was spraying the ball around like Pirlo his passing was exceptional. As the league campaign drew to a close Jonathan Lyons and Karl Somers drove the team forward in search of a winner. Karl was denied a penalty when he was brought down after Lyon's found him after a terrorising run. The final whistle was greeted with applause for both sides and congratulations from Arklow to the league champions. Thanks to Arklow Town for the warm welcome and hospitality.
The opening game of the season also ended in a draw, 1-1 away to Sacred Heart. What followed was a league campaign that ends as league champions. It's been a long season of many highlights, superb football, laughs, and memories to last a lifetime. Personal highlights would have to be the last minute winner away against our local rivals Verona. In truth every single minute has been enjoyable. It really was that good. League titles are very hard to win, on the back of a promotion it's incredible.
Thanks to Brian, Bobby, Sefano, Donal and all the players. Our support was fantastic all year, well done to everyone who got behind the team. The Saints next game will take place on Sunday May 31st away to Cockhill Celtic in the Irish Daily Mail FAI Senior Cup second round.
