Under 11 Coyne Cup Semi Final
They went into today's semi final having defeated St. Francis and Esker Celtic. Both games had to be decided by penalty shootouts after normal time and extra time could not separate the teams.
St. Mochtas started todays game well, putting pressure on the Kevins defence from the off. Jake McCormack went on some outstanding runs down the left wing but unfortunately his crosses were cleared from danger each time. That changed in the 10th minute when Harry Whelan was found in space on the right. His cross was met by Jake McCormack, who back heeled to the waiting Alex Jones. Alex calmly found the roof of the net. 0-1. St. Kevins pressed hard for the remainder of the first half, but as has been the case for the last number of games, there was no way past the rock solid defensive combination of Glen, Cameron and Emmanuel.
Both teams made some changes at half time and it was St. Kevins who enjoyed the better spell for the earlier part of the half. But Ahmed was rarely troubled in goal and any shot was watched go harmlessly wide. The Saints got back on top in the latter stages of the game and if it wasn't for the heroics of the Kevins keeper it would have been 0-4 to the saints. With Jake McCormack clear through on goal, it looked like there would only be one outcome but he was denied by the on rushing keeper. Evan Jones was also denied with two late chances by the Kevins goal stopper. With the score so finely balanced, it was a nervy end for everyone but the saints held on and advance into the final in a few weeks time.
Mark and Dave have worked tirelessly with the team in training over the past few months and the team are now reaping the rewards of all their hard work. Whether they meet Greystones FC or Shelbourne in the final, it will be a great day out for all involved in the team and the club and we wish the team all the best on the day.
