Arklow took the lead when Paul Werder took advantage of some hesitancy in the Saints defence to break the deadlock on seven minutes with a beautiful finish into the bottom corner. The recently promoted Saints started slow and were 2-0 down in the 25th minute when Gavin Doyle's header beat Warren Fee after an awkward bounce.
Martin O' Neilly volleyed wide on the half hour mark, the visitors were thankful for a slight deflection. Four minutes later, David Somers scored after some excellent play by Glen Crowe. Somer's header nestled in the back of the net with the help of the woodwork. One minute after the half time break it was all square, penetrating build up play by David Somers and Karl Somers created a chance for Glen Crowe and the Saints striker made no mistake stroking the ball into the corner of the net. Arklow goalkeeper Keith Hanley made a fine save on the hour mark denying Karl Somers.
Brian McCarthy's side were dominating and playing with plenty of confidence, and took the lead in the 53rd minute. Lee Dixon's delivery was cleared to David Somers who found the back of the net with a superb finish. Lee Dixon had his best game since joining the club and he created the fourth goal utilising his pace and power on the left he destroyed the Arklow defence, his pull back was finished with aplomb by Glen Crowe. David Somers capped a brilliant performance completing his hat trick in the last minute with a low drive into the bottom corner after deceiving a couple of defenders. Next up, Verona at home and a great opportunity to win the league at home.
