FAI Umbro Intermediate Cup - Round 3
The Saints took the game to our visitors from Cork from the first whistle and had the better of the opening exchanges. David Somers opened the scoring with in the 16th minute with a free kick that took a deflection that left Ballincollig goalkeeper Sean Hogan with no chance. Glen Crowe came close to making it 2-0 in the 24th minute only to be denied by a great save by Hogan. Ballincollig had a good spell on the half hour mark and they equalised when Richard O' Brien headed a ball driven into the penalty area into the top corner of the net. It was a brilliant reaction by the Ballincollig player to steer his header into the net. The Saints responded immediately with Hogan making another great save to keep our Reilly's powerful shot with his feet. Hogan was beaten two minutes later when the WestEnd Barbers Man of the Match Jordan Lancaster found Crowe who slotted the home despite a last ditch attempted clearance just on the line by a Ballincollig defender.
The Saints dominated the second half playing some superb football and having the majority of the possession. Substitute Aaron O' Brien went on a terrific run in the 74th minute and his inch perfect cross found Crowe who looked to have made it 3-1 but Hogan made an unbelievable save to tip the ball onto the crossbar. Hogan had a brilliant game and he's a top class goalkeeper who impressed everyone in Porterstown road today. Hogan could do nothing about the Saints third goal when Aaron O' Brien was found by Lancaster after some excellent build up play by Crowe and he finished in style to really seal the win. His strictly Mochta's dancing celebration delighted the packed home crowd. It was fantastic to see the talented youngest score and regain his confidence after his spell out through injury.
The Saints made it 4-1 in the last minute when David Somers cross was turned into the net by a tired and weary Ballincollig defender. The Saints will face Cockhill Celtic in the 4th round on January 25th in Porterstown Road. It will be another great occasion in Porterstown road. The Saints go marching and dancing on.
