FAI Umbro Intermediate Cup Round 1
The legendary striker opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a sublime finish after Reilly found him with a delightful chip over the Peamount defence. Crowe's volley left the Peamount keeper with no chance. Three minutes later, Crowe made it 2-0 with another top class finish when his shot from Reilly's delivery found the bottom corner.
Peamount started the game well and Saints goalkeeper Warren Fee made a good save in the 14th minute when he tipped a clever back header onto the crossbar. Both sides played good football in the opening half, the Saints always looked very dangerous going forward. Peamount were mostly restricted to long range efforts although Craig Sheridan and Luke Harrison made some good blocks and they are a formidable partnership in the heart of the Saints defence.
After the break Lancaster fired over the crossbar from distance and his free kick in the 49th minute hit the post. The Saints were dominating and when Luke Harrison made it 3-0 on the hour it was game over. Harrison's header from Reilly's corner was powerful and it flew into the back of the net. Brian Snowe replaced the excellent Reilly in the 68th minute and three minutes later he made it 4-0 with a superb finish after a terrific move involving Hilliard and Lancaster. The movement and passing was outstanding and it was a long second half for Peamount. David Somers scored his fourth goal of the season with a header in the 75th minute. Jonathan Lyons was denied getting his name on the score sheet by the Peamount goalkeepers excellent save in the 84th minute. Lyons drive from outside the penalty area was tipped over the crossbar with the faintest of touches. Brian Kelly completed the scoring with a superb low finish into the bottom corner in the 88th minute. Kelly was defensively very solid and he's a full back who loves to get forward.
It was a sensational performance against a very good side. The goals were of the highest quality, but what was also very impressive was the hunger and work rate throughout the side. Peamount will be disappointed but to be honest not many sides would have lived with the Saints today. It's the fourth game now unbeaten and the team are gathering momentum.
